Welcome to My Classroom! 

For the 2012-2013 school year, I will be teaching Guided Reading and co-teaching Integrated Studies with Mrs. E. Riggs. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns.

GUIDED READING
Students in this class will be reading leveled books independently and with partners, receiving direct reading instruction and working on independent reading activities. We will also be engaged in novel study units each quarter.

Homework will be assigned on a regular basis.  In addition to fostering responsibility, homework allows students to practice reading skills and strategies taught in class which leads to  increased reading comprehension.

Students are expected to read four independent books outside of school each quarter.  Educational research shows that reading for pleasure (magazines count too!) allows kids to practice their reading strategies and strengthen their skills.
