Welcome to Physical Education at Jefferson!

About Our PE Program.....

Middle school students at Jefferson participate in a daily physical education program designed to promote a commitment to a lifestyle of fitness.  Through our program,it is hoped students will gain knowledge of, and appreciation for several sports and activities.  It is also our hope that our students experience the joy and benefits of being physically fit, along with acquiring knowledge of how to maintain this fitness in adult life.  We want Jefferson students to have fun in doing so.

About Our PE Staff....

The physical education staff at Jefferson has a combined 60+ years of teaching experience.  We are continually striving to develop innovative teaching methods and keep with current research and practices in our field.  Our department is supplemented by an intramural and extra-curricular program fielded by a dedicated group of teachers and coaches.

Additional PE Facilities...

Jefferson has two additional facilities that give students additional opportunities to become more physically active.  The auxiliary gym houses our climbing wall used by PE classes.  Our fitness center is a separate facility containing a variety of strength and cardiovascular equipment.  Students use the equipment during PE units and sports seasons.

Physical Education Expectations...

We believe physical education contributes to the total development of the student not as something purely physical, but as an integral part of the educative process.  Our general aim is to promote growth that is physically, emotionally, and socially sound.

We expect our students to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. (State Goal 20)

We expect our students to develop a feel for community through team building activities and promote well being through proper decision making skills. (State Goal 21)

We Expect our students to develop an understanding of the human body systems. (State Goal 23)
