Families celebrate student work at Art Show

Families around the district packed North Elementary School on April 19 for the District 45 Art Show. The school’s gymnasium was transformed into galleries, showcasing unique and diverse student artwork.

A special glow room was set up on the stage, featuring student artwork in neon colors under black lights for families to see.

Families toured the galleries, and many took photos of their children standing next to their artwork.

Nayli Romero Taboada, a 7th-grade student from Jefferson Middle School, was one of many student artists whose work was on display. Her art piece was a three-dimensional paper block with patterns she drew on each side.

“It was relaxing to work on, and the patterns were pretty simple to create,” said Nayli. “I used a marker, and because it was a Sharpie, I didn’t want it to bleed through, so I had to be quick.”

Nayli said that when she was an elementary student, she also had a piece in the Show, so she was excited to return this year with a new work of art. Nayli said she has enjoyed creating art for some time.

“It’s very fun. When I was young, I loved coloring, but around 4th grade, I started to create other things,” she said. “Nowadays, I sketch a lot, and after school, I am in a Frida Club, so I also paint and work with a lot of different art methods.”

Nayli said that while she hopes to continue with art in high school, she isn’t sure if she will have time for art in addition to all her other requirements and interests.

Congratulations to all our students who participated in the 2024 Art Show. Thank you to our District 45 Art Teachers, who created a beautiful space to celebrate our students’ creativity, and thank you to our D45 PTA Council for providing refreshments at the Show.
