    The District 45 Board of Education enacts policy to guide the administration in the day to day operation of the schools, hires and terminates personnel, adopts the annual budget and approves expenditures, and ensures that the instructional program is continually evaluated and improved.

     

    Board Award Program

    The Board of Education is proud to sponsor a monthly award program to recognize students, staff and community members for their outstanding contributions to School District 45.  Throughout the year, each school will host a board meeting at their building.  School principals will notify those being honored prior to each meeting.  Each award program will run from 7-7:30pm.

      The Technology and Information Services Department provides a variety of Instructional and Non-instructional support services.  Some of the major responsibilities that are accomplished while operating in a fiscally responsible manner. include:

      • Providing classrooms with the most effective technology tools.
      • Providing effective, research based software tools for teaching and learning.
      • Maintaining a robust and reliable network infrastructure with adequate bandwidith for all District 45 applications.
      • Maintaining current functional technology for all District users.
      • Providing District users with reliable communication services such as a digital telephone system, email, District web site, etc.
      • Providing all staff with Help Desk support on any District-related technology topic.
      • Providing technology professional development for all staff.

      District 45 believes all students learn in unique ways.

      The district offers a full continuum of special education and related services to meet the individual learning and behavioral needs of each student with disabilities.  Students may receive inclusive support with specialized instruction in their home schools.  District 45 also offers self contained special education programs in several of our buildings for students in preschool through grade 8.  District 45 is also provided with special education programs, training, and technical support for our students with disabilities through SASED, our Special Education Cooperative.

      District 45 has had success raising the academic achievement of students with disabilities.

      • Between 2004 and 2009, the percent of District 45 students with disabilities who scored at or above grade level in reading increased by 22.7 percentage points.
      • Between 2004 and 2009, the percent of District 45 students with disabilities who scored at or above grade level in math increased by 18.9 percentage points.

      Curriculum & Instruction

      School District 45 provides a comprehensive curriculum within the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. In addition, students participate in art, physical education and music within the school day.  Student support services are provided in the areas of ESL and bilingual programming, gifted instruction and special education services.  Foreign language is offered at the middle school level.

      All School District 45 curricular areas are aligned with the State of Illinois Learning Standards.

      School improvement, staff development, and student assessment are also coordinated through the Office of Curriculum and Instruction.

      The School District 45 Office of Community Relations is responsible for maintaining positive and open lines of communication with the school, community and home. The office distributes a quarterly community newsletter, News & Views and showcases School District 45 through a cable program, called Students Thrive in 45 on Channel 6 Comcast, Channel 99 AT & T.  In addition, a school programming and event list is posted on both channels monthly.

      Total number of students at North and Schafer eligible for Choice = 841.

      Number of students who opted for Choice  = 23

      For the FY 2010-2011 school year –

      Total number of students at North and Schafer eligible for Choice = 837.

      Number of students who opted for Choice  = 25.

       

      Total number of students eligible for Supplemental Educational Services = 260

      Total number of students who opted for Supplemental Educational Services = 33
