Emergency Closing of Schools
The Superintendent is authorized to close schools due to hazardous weather or other emergencies that threaten the safety of students, staff members, or school property. School closings due to weather and other emergencies are posted on the main page of the District website. A call will also be made using our automated calling service, Alert Solutions.
In addition, District 45 provides closing information to the Emergency Closing Center sponsored by WGN Radio. To search for closing information, please visit http://www.emergencyclosingcenter.com.
When children feel physically and emotionally safe, they are better able to focus on learning. During the school year, District 45 teaches students how to prepare and be alert for unexpected situations. As part of this process, schools regularly practice school and bus evacuation, severe weather, and shelter in place drills.
District 45 has a comprehensive safety plan. For security reasons, we do not post the plan on our District website. Working with the Villa Park and Lombard Fire and Police Departments, safety and emergency procedures have been developed for a wide range of situations.
