Welcome to Stevenson School

  • Stevenson and York Center are sister schools. Stevenson serves students in Early Childhood through second grade. York Center serves students in third through fifth grade.  York Center is located at 895 14th Street in Lombard.

In 2006, the York Center/Stevenson staff and students were awarded two prestigious awards. The state of Illinois has named us as Spotlight Schools, and the U.S. Department of Education has honored us with the 2006 Blue Ribbon Award. York Center has been awarded for academic achievement and "exemplary performance in closing the achievement gap, meeting high standards, and opening a world of opportunities." In a letter received by Margaret Spellings, the former U.S. Secretary of Education, she wrote, "Your school is living proof that students can acquire the kinds of advanced skills and knowledge they need to succeed in today's world. It is a national model of excellence from which others can learn." We are proud of our accomplishments and have continued to be named as a Spotlight School by the state of Illinois in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

The YC/ST staff offers the balance to a well-rounded education that focuses on life-long learning habits to ensure the students become successful, independent learners. Our staff is highly qualified and provides a unique educational program for our multi-ethnic student population. York Center School has an enrollment of approximately 180 students, while Stevenson School has an enrollment of approximately 190 students. A variety of programs and services are offered to our students to enrich their educational experiences:

    • Small student/teacher ratios

    • Physical Education, Art Education, and Music Education

    • Band and Orchestra Lessons

    • A climbing wall in the gymnasium

    • Family Technology Classes

    • Breakfast program

The allegiance and enthusiasm observed year after year at York Center/Stevenson never ceases to amaze us. It is a tremendous honor to work with such a fine group of teachers, parents, and students.
