Ms. Baxtrom's Class

  • About Ms. Baxtrom:

My name is Amanda Baxtrom. I am so thrilled to have your child in my class at Jackson Middle School this year. We will be learning a lot of new and exciting things. This is my 7th year of teaching middle school. I graduated from Governors State University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and later went back for a certificate of secondary education. I began my career teaching 8th grade in Blue Island, Illinois and later taught 7th grade for five more years. Last year I taught 6th through 8th language arts and social studies in Chicago. I am very excited to be at Jackson and to help your child make the transition into middle school.

For your information, assignments and announcements can be found on the class website at: http://dupage.schoolwires.net/Page/551 so please check this, as well as PowerSchool frequently. Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions, throughout the year.

Looking forward to a great year,

    Amanda Baxtrom

    About Ms. Olvera:

    Hello there!

My name is Gwendolyn Olvera, and I am the English as a Second Language teacher at Jackson Middle School. I will be co-teaching English Language Arts with Ms. Baxtrom this year. This is my 6th year teaching bilingual students, and I am looking forward to having your child in our class! Although my primary role is to support the English Language Learners in the class and ensure that their needs are being met, I work with all the students in the classroom and am invested in all of their learning.

My background is in English Language Arts, having received my Bachelor’s degree in English from Dominican University. With that being said, I am completely comfortable with the Language Arts curriculum, and am passionate about helping students foster a love of reading and writing. Ms. Baxtrom and I will be sharing all the roles and responsibilities within the classroom, including planning, teaching, and grading. Please do not hesitate to contact either of us about your child’s progress.
