The School District 45 Board of Education voted during a regular meeting on February 19, 2019, to approve the appointment of Dr. Kathleen A. Melton to the position of Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, effective July 1, 2019.
Currently, Dr. Kathy Melton is the Principal at Lowell Elementary School in Community Unit School District 200 (CUSD200), headquartered in Wheaton. Dr. Melton also serves as an adjunct instructor in principal preparation and educational technology programs at Aurora University in Aurora. She is the DuPage Regional Membership Chair for the Illinois Principals Association, and a Digital Leadership Ambassador for the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Dr. Melton has presented at state and national conferences on topics such as Learners Leading: Get Everyone Ready for Future Ready, Who is Telling Your Story, and Social Media Ambassador.
Prior to joining District 200, Dr. Melton served in Oswego Community Unit School District 308 as an elementary school principal, an assistant junior high principal, and an assistant elementary school principal. In her career, she has taught at both the elementary and middle school level.
Dr. Kathy Melton earned her Doctorate, her Specialist degree and her Masters’ degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of St. Francis in Joliet.
