Everyone Wins at 12th Annual 5k Fun Run
On a crisp, near perfect, October morning, 266 students, staff, and community members gathered for the 12th annual Just for Fun 5k Run hosted by the Villa Park/Lombard PTA Council. The race is in memory of Bonnie Scahill, a former District 45 PE teacher.
Nearly 50 individuals volunteered their time to plan, coordinate, setup, run games, were timekeepers, and so much more.
To begin the morning, students from the Jackson and Jefferson Middle School bands played the National Anthem. Throughout the day, families enjoyed an obstacle course, face painting, and other fun activities.
All proceeds from the event are divided and distributed to the PTA for each D45 school to fund wellness and educational programs for kids. The PTA and the District want to again thank the Villa Park Police for keeping runners safe during the event. Their help is truly appreciated!
District 45 Board Member, Melissa Slinn exclaimed, "It was great to see our D45 community come together to run, walk, or cheer each other on! It was awesome to see so many participate! Thanks to everyone who put in so much of their time to make this day a huge success!”
